The Rattlebone is a beautiful 17th century village pub with roaring fires in the Winter, lots of nooks and crannies, wobbly tables, chairs and settles; and character oozing out of every crack in the walls. They even have a ghost, the 11th century Saxon warrior John Rattlebone!
Set in the picturesque village of Sherston, it is 10 minutes away from the historic towns of Malmesbury and Tetbury, close to Badminton, the Beaufort Polo Club and Westonbirt Arboretum, and is a gateway to the world famous Cotswolds. The Rattlebone has recently been brought up to date with a sympathetic refurbishment which has combined the timeless character of the pub with modern furnishings without losing any of its old world appeal. This has merely underlined its place as one of the best food and drinking pubs in the West Country.
The pub boasts 2 gardens, 2 Boules Pistes and a Skittles Alley. The Á La Carte concentrates on country cuisine with a modern twist. In the capable hands of Head Chef Roger Payne, it is constantly changing, uses only the freshest local ingredients and includes game in season, fresh fish, superb steaks, funky salads and many other dishes of distinction! Recent favourites have included Gloucester Old Spot Belly of Pork with Bubble and Squeak and Cider Gravy, and Potted Smoked Haddock with Poached Egg. They are also rightly famous for their desserts and puddings, all of which are freshly prepared on the premises by a team of top chefs.
In the Summer they hold delicious BBQs in the garden, as well as their famous Spit Roasts, Paella Nights and an annual authentic Curry festival. In Winter time they have Fish and Game weeks, so there is always something to look forward to.
Functions & Parties The pub can accommodate these either in the back restaurant (seats 40), skittle alley (seats 40) or in the back garden. Their policy is that they can do anything that you would like – from curries, to ‘carve your own roasts’, to hot and cold buffets to full 3 course a la carte menus. They also offer BBQs, hog roasts or even a giant paella outside.
Pub Activities As well as fun board games in the public bar, there is also a fully functioning skittles alley and two boules pistes – all of which can be booked for parties.
